Experience
I have been teaching elementary school math, science, language arts, and social studies for 12 years and have been tutoring on and off for 10. It's refreshing to tutor children one-on-one or in a small group. Reading is my favorite thing to teach. It establishes a foundation for all other academic areas. When kids get the "light bulb," it's the best feeling for me and them. I've taught public, private, charter, and magnet school students and in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia.My philosophical approach to education is that it should be fun and interesting. While getting to know students, I gauge their interests and make them feel important. Educators always need to learn new teaching styles and techniques as well. Also, teaching must be on an individual level, as every student learns differently and should never be criticized for this. No student should feel less important than another. Children should be allowed to learn at their own pace. Multiple teaching styles in class help students get it, understand it, and remember it.As for me, I attended Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and North Carolina A&T State University. I enjoy movies, exercising, football and college basketball, and spending time with my family and two kids.
